Winningreen Energy Alert
By Gretchen Randall
Date: August 18, 2008
Issue: It’s becoming even clearer that environmentalists want the U.S. to develop no new energy at all as they now oppose new transmission lines to carry wind and solar energy from its sources to other parts of the country. The Wall St. Journal (WSJ) points out several hurdles that utilities are facing in building transmission lines to bring the solar, geothermal and wind energy to cities such as Los Angeles and San Diego.
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger put it best when he described the environmental opposition saying, "It's kind of schizophrenic behavior. They [environmentalists] say that we want renewable energy, but we don't want you to put it anywhere." (WSJ)
Democrats such as Governor Ed Rendell (PA) are leading the opposition to transmission lines needed to bring the “clean energy” to cities.
Comment: If it’s true that people vote on pocketbook issues, then Republicans should win seats in this election because energy prices are the biggest pocketbook issue since the depression and Republicans have a plan to increase supply and reduce prices while Democrats just say “No!”
Comment: “The only energy sources they seem to like are the ones we don't have.” (WSJ) http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121901822110148233.html
